Cancer Rate Declining

Cancer Rate Declining

I just watch a clip on the news stating that cancer in men and women are beginning to drop more. It was said that the number are out from the American Cancer Society and it shows that percentage has drop to about 23 percent in men and about 16 percent in woman in the big 3 cancer which are colon breast and lung. It shows that men mostly are beginning to listen a lot to smoking ads and are realizing that smoking does kill and starting to take heed.

Although smoking related cancer are dropping there is becoming a rising number in the amount of obesity related cancers such as pancreatic and esophageal.  It’s good to see that many are starting to get the picture that smoking is one of the main killers now we have to realize that over eating and unhealthy eating habits are also starting to be a major problems as well. I feel that we now have to take a lot of the focus on proper eating techniques as well as smoking if we are going to try to live a better healthier lifestyle.

We can do things like cut back on the snacking or switch to eating fruits instead. Try eating things like peanuts or pecan nuts which help in cravings for snacks and helps prevent over eating. Walking helps as well. Don’t have to start off hitting the gym or doing 5 mile runs on the treadmill, just simply walking  around your block for starts can get you going and you can eventually build up to that.

Does Acupuncture help in weight loss

There was a clip I watch online which a guy spoke about how he used acupuncture to help him lose weight.  He says that the majority of his life he battle with weight gain and he blames it mostly on the snacking.  Like most people he had trouble craving his snacking between meals you know the Doritos and Oreo eating. Snacking on things like this might not seem harmless but these snacks pack a whole lot of calories which quickly add up in which it did with this fellow. He said that he once weigh in at over 400 pounds. He had gastric bypass surgery, which help him a bit and was able to knock off over 100 pounds but once again snacking became the problem. Someone told him about acupuncture. Told him by sticking needles in certain places of the body it would help control those between meal snacking cravings he has been having. He tried and says so far that it is working for him to help control his cravings.  The clip goes on to say that studies show that acupuncture also helps in anxiety, depression, stress, and addictions. I personally never had acupuncture done but maybe it won’t be bad thought to go to the spar one day for a full body massage and a acupuncture done by a train session to see if it really does help in making you more relaxed.

How to cure bad breath

How to cure bad breath

For people with halitosis caused by gastrointestinal diseases, it is important to first treat the problem since bad breath comes only as a side effect. However, for people with mouth-related bad breath there are several ways to prevent and treat these cases.

Chew gum. Dry mouth can cause bad breath, and one remedy for this is to start chewing sugarless gum. Chewing gum increases the production of saliva which helps cleanse the mouth. Special mint chewing gums also have anti-odor ingredients which can help freshen the breath.

Drink lots of water. Although chewing sugarless gum or sucking on sugarless candy can help produce more saliva, simply drinking more water can help keep the mouth moist. It also washes away food particles and bacteria which cause bad breath.

Stop smoking. If your breath already smells like ashtray, it is just practical to assume that stopping the tobacco can also improve your breath’s smell. If smoking causes you gum problems and tooth decay which can lead to halitosis, kicking the habit can prevent the bad breath from worsening.

See your dentist. It is recommended to pay the dentist a visit once or twice a year for regular cleaning. This will not only free your mouth from bacteria build up, but your dentist can also help treat other causes of bad breath.

Start gargling. There are different mouthwashes available in the market which can help malodor for hours. Most of them contain antibacterial agents including cetylpyridinium chloride, chlorhexidine, zinc gluconate, essential oils, and chlorine dioxide which can effectively eliminate bad odor on a short-term basis.

Practice good oral hygiene. Brushing the teeth at least twice a day will help the mouth be kept clean. It is also important to gently brush the tongue surface to scrape off bacteria.

What causes bad smelling breath

What causes bad smelling breath

A case of bad breath, also known as halitosis, is a condition where one exhales unpleasant odor when breathing. More often than not, bad breath is only transient and will disappear after cleaning the mouth. However, there are also cases of chronic bad breath which may range from light to extreme intensities.

The most common cause of bad smelling breath is the tongue. Eighty to ninety percent of mouth-related bad breath cases are caused by the malodorous compounds and fatty acids that the tongue bacteria produce. The posterior dorsum of the tongue holds large quantities of natural bacteria which feed on food deposits, dead epithelial cells, and postnasal drip. This includes populations of anaerobic bacteria which thru anaerobic respiration can produce the foul smell known as bad breath.

Xerostomia, a dry mouth medical condition which may be caused by the side effects of different medications, salivary gland problems or continuous breathing through the mouth, is also a possible cause of bad breath. Saliva which is a watery substance is used to moisten and cleanse the mouth. It neutralizes the acids produced by plaques, and washes away the dead cells which often accumulate on the tongue, gums and mouth cheeks. If the dead cell build up is not removed, they will decompose and cause the foul smell in the mouth.

Gum diseases such as an advanced case of Periodontitis, are often associated with severe halitosis. A growth of anaerobic bacteria below the gumline increases chances of having bacteria waste deposited in the subgingival area which produces a very intense bad breath.

Smoking can also cause the breath of the smoker to smell like ashtray. In more serious cases, smoking can cause gum problems and tooth decay which can cause halitosis.

The putrefaction from the tonsils is also considered a minor cause of halitosis. Tonsilloliths, also known as tonsil stones, are calcified materials that cluster in the crevices of tonsils. These are often made up of calcium and other minerals such as phosphorus, magnesium, as well as ammonia and carbonate. And although they do not pose serious harm to the throat, they are extremely foul.

Although rare, halitosis can also be caused by an aging food retained in the esophagus. It is also possible that the cardia which is the valve between the esophagus and the stomach, is left open due to gastrointestinal diseases, thus allowing the acids to enter the esophagus while foul-smelling gases escape from the mouth.

Dry Hair

Dry Hair

Damaged and brittle hair is not attractive; therefore a good crowning glory should never be dry and dull. There are several factors why one’s hair can be excessively dry. However, here are some tips you can do to prevent and fix dry hair.

Avoid heat styling. Even though you want to sport different hairstyles easily through heat styling tools, it is still best to avoid it as it can cause damage and hair breakage. It also makes hair thinner and brittle.

Stop hair coloring. Hair dying is a normal process to change one’s hair color and express one’s self. However, it can also leave your hair very dry and damaged. So if unnecessary, cut back on hair coloring and invest time and effort first to grow back the moisture and health that your hair should have.

Rinse and condition your hair. Shampoos with moisturizing ingredients don’t only leave your hair clean but also give it the moisture it needs. Conditioners also keep your scalp clean and restore the moisture levels which can make your health grow healthier.

Protect your hair even at night. Not many know this, but cotton sucks the moisture from your hair leaving it dull and dry. So when sleeping, it is advisable that you put on a satin cap, or change your pillow cases for satin ones as they are gentler on your hair.

Check if you have dandruff. Dandruff can cause the scalp to become flaky and scaly which lead to hair dryness and hair loss. So although you probably don’t want to admit it, it is good to check your scalp and immediately treat it.

How to have long hair

How to have long hair

Most women have problems in growing out hair. Whether you take pills or cut your hair according to the phase of the moon, it will not grow out beautiful strong strands if you do not put a good amount of love and care to it. To help make your hair grow faster, you can follow these tips.

Live a healthy lifestyle. Although you may think that only products and the environment can affect your hair, what you take in and do are as important. What you eat, drink and do to your body can take its toll on your hair. If you eat more fruits and vegetables, drink lots of water and exercise regularly, not only will you stay fit and healthier but your hair will also benefit.

Get trims regularly. It may sound counterproductive, but a half an inch trim on your mane will help your hair grow longer. It will also keep your locks healthy as you are keeping the dry, damaged and split ends from working their way up to your hair shaft.

Use moisturizing and protective products. Shampoos and conditioners formulated for dry or damaged hair will not only help repair your locks but will also make it healthier which encourages its growth. When heat styling, make sure to put on hair protecting creams or gels so your hair will not get too dry, brittle or damaged.

As much as possible, lay your hair loose. Tying it up tightly or putting it on braids for long hours may only lead to hair breakage. It is always best to be kind to your hair so it will not be painful both for your hair and for your scalp.

Avoid excessive use of chemicals. Although it is okay to dye your hair and undergo treatments, it is still best to keep the chemical use at minimum. Your hair does not need tons of chemicals to be beautiful. Sometimes, all it needs is just rest.

How does hair grow

How does hair grow

Hair is a protein that is essentially composed of a follicle, a root and a bulb. Deep in the skin, the follicle is attached to a small sebaceous gland and muscle fiber. As the follicle collects and bundles old cells, the hair grows.

The bundles are coated with root sheath as the sebaceous gland and muscle fiber push them through the skin. The sheath is the epidermic coat of the hair follicle and consists of the outer and inner root strata. RNA which gives the hair its texture and color is contained in the external layer while the hair fiber is contained in the internal layer.

Since hair is made up of Keratin, a protein which is also responsible for the production of the fingernails and toenails, it is not surprising that a hair fiber is actually a cuticle. Its growth cycle consists of three phases – Anagen, Catagen and Telogen.

During Anagen, growth cells in the papilla divide rapidly. They bundle up and produce the hair shaft, and these are keratinized and are pushed out into the pore. At the Anagen stage, the hair grows half an each every month. The longer the growth rate at Anagen, the easier a person can grow longer hair.

At the end of Anagen, the follicle moves to the Catagen or the transitional phase where the hair stops growing although it does not fall out. In Catagen, the hair follicle shrinks and the bulb detaches itself from the blood supply.

After Catagen comes Telogen which is the resting phase of hair growth. Although the hair is still attached to the follicle, it does not grow anymore. The dermal papilla enters the resting period, and the hair becomes a fibrous and tough protein. This phase completes the hair cycle and the hair goes back to Anagen. During the period to return to Anagen though, the new hair shaft that forms push out the old existing hair also known as Exogen, or shedding.

A manicure is like a pedicure, but for the hands. There are a lot of salons and spas offering professional manicure services. But if you want to do it yourself, follow steps one to eight (except step 5) from the instructions on how to do a pedicure. For additional tips, you can also take note of these.

Get a “squoval” nail shape. You probably had square or oval shaped nail, but the most flattering nail shape according to Deborah Lippmann, a nail guru from InStyle Magazine, is a combination of square and oval.

If you have yellowed or stained nails, you can put a drop of lemon or lavender oil onto the nail. Use a buffer afterwards to buff the stains off. You can also use a peroxide toothpaste in buffing the nails to make them appear lighter and cleaner.
